WHO CARES? NOT MATT MAYS!
I’ve always hear people mention how they are “all out of fucks”. I used to believe that nonsense. It didn’t hit me until I tried to think about what Matt Mays didn’t care about.
Matt Mays has been my best friend since 2006. I know him better than I know anyone else in the world. Matt is family. Matt may not be the Dos Equis Most Interesting Man, but he is probably the coolest person I know.
Its because Matt does whatever Matt thinks is cool and doesn’t give a damn what anyone thinks. Matt Mays is lives the definition of “doing me”. He can probably do whatever he wants but doesn’t feel like it and doesn’t feel the need to prove to anyone that he can.
Matt has truly figured it out. He never lets anything bother him or get under his skin unless you tell him he will develop back hair like his dad. Once I saw Matt staring off into a deep gaze. I asked him what he was thinking about, and he said “Actually, nothing.”, and I was believed it. I’m sure there is some yoga master who has been meditating for decades to get to Matt’s level on clear-mindedness.
In 2010, Matt and I lived together. I was on the couch in the morning when he left to go to work and walked out of the house. Matt walked back in and joined me on the couch. After a few hours of small talk and television, we decided to get lunch. Matt said we’d have to take my car because his wouldn’t start.
Most people would be distraught over their car-not Matt! Most people would have been stressed out missing work-not Matt! He didn’t even mention it. Matt Mays has found the balance of bettering himself year to year without giving a shit about anything around him besides the people he loves.
I know EVERYTHING Matt cares about. The reason Matt Mays wins the “I don’t give a shit” award is because I don’t know what Matt doesn’t care about because he doesn’t give a shit enough to mention it.
The next time you hear anyone mention that they don’t care about something, realize that love and hate is the same emotion headed in different directions. If you mention something it’s because it rents space in your head.
I try to emulate Matt’s way of thinking-or lack thereof. I am giving effort to not give effort, a talent that Matt does effortlessly. He is to be admired.
You could follow Matt on social media but he only has a Facebook account and thats because someone made it for him…so you probably can’t follow him.
